Active filter optimisation for efficient variable frequency remote generation

The application of a shunt active filter to a remote variable-frequency generation system has been demonstrated. In a variable-frequency system an active filter filtering technique must be used since tuned filters are only designed to operate at a fixed fundamental frequency. In a remote weak generation system with nonlinear loads, distortion of the voltage waveform occurs. By using an active filter to compensate for current distortion, the quality of the generator voltage waveform is also improved. The active filter was shown to have the ability to track the changing fundamental frequency and to maintain its ability to remove current distortion. A real-time, intelligent controller automatically adjusts the performance of the active filter to maximize the operational efficiency while minimizing the level of line current distortion.<<ETX>>
