Various treatment technologies are employed for the treatment of wastewater. The selection of technology depends on the influent characteristics and the required quality on the final product, the cost and ease of production. Feasibility studies on using membrane technology for the reuse of bottle-washing wastewater from beverage industry were carried out in the laboratory. The qualities and cost of the final product were compared with city potable water. The study reveals that the reuse of bottle-washing wastewater after ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membrane filtration treatment systems not only reduce the consumption of potable water but also helps to conserve energy. The payback period of ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis treatment systems are found to be about 2 and 5 years, respectively.
