Investigation of Pilots' Transfer between a Vessel and a Pilot Boat at Mouths of Ise-Mikawa Bay and Osaka Bay

A pilotage is one of the most important factors in order to keep a vessel's safety and rising efficiency for navigation and berthing at many harbors in Japan. On their jobs, pilots' down fall accidents have happened in nearly every year when they transfer to/from the vessel/pilot boat. These accidents lead up to Pilot's missing and even death. A safe measure for the transfer is the important subject for pilots. However, these accidents have not been clear in general society until now, and were not a subject for study. Therefore, this study is the first academic approach to the actual conditions of pilots' transfer. The authors consider their speed of transfer on pilot ladder. If their performances become clear, it will be able to connect to reduce the accidents and pilot rescue systems.
