The recently increase of wireless data networks operating at unregulated frequencies, demand the development of propagation models to take into account, in a lesser or more detailed manner, all the issues that affect the extent of coverage of the indoor environment in which the networks are deployed; the models allow for a more accurate estimation of the level of signal loss and can be applied to indoor and outdoor environments. Therefore, this paper focuses on developing a propagation model that allow to estimate the signal loss on a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) operating at 2.4 GHz according to the standard IEEE 802.11b/g. The study is restricted to indoor environments applications and is based on a set of measurements of the signal power level obtained inside the buildings of the Universidad Nacional Experimental del Tachira - UNET, San Cristobal, Venezuela. The new model presents a better performance in the estimation of the propagation losses that the models of the literature with whom it was compared.
