SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF ARAMID FIBER SQUARE TUBED CONCRETE COLUMNS WITH NON-METALLIC REINFORCEMENT

With aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) tubed concrete columns with non-metallic reinforcement, the AFRP square tube performs dual functions of stay-in-place formwork and transverse reinforcement. In this research, specimens consisted of new fiber materials and concrete only. The 6 column specimens studied, including a hybrid concrete column with longitudinal steel reinforcement, were tested under cyclic lateral forces while simultaneously subjected to constant axial load. The test results for AFRP square tubed concrete columns with non-metallic reinforcement showed good seismic performance comparable to the hybrid column with steel reinforcement.
