PSS parameter optimization based on artificial fish-swarm algorithm

Based on the small disturbance linearization platform of PSASP(Power System Analysis Software Package),the augmented matrix is extracted and its sub-matrix is determined according to the linear diffe- rential equations of PSS(Power System Stabilizer).The PSS parameters obtained during optimization are used to update the corresponding elements of the augmented matrix and generate the new augmented ma- trix,which provides the data processing objects for PSS parameter optimization.PSS parameters are opti- mized by the artificial fish-swarm algorithm with mutation factor.The global optimum can be achieved through the local searching optimization of each fish in the fish school.The objective function of optimiza- tion is to maximize the minimum of damping among all electromechanical modes under various operation conditions.A case of New England system indicates that the PSSs designed by the artificial fish-swarm al- gorithm can effectively improve the small disturbance stability of system.
