Recently in Korea awareness of the country"s exhibition industry has expanded and a range of support and promotional strategies have been put forward. The purpose of this study is to look into the international competitiveness know-how in terms of each nation"s trade exhibition industry by conducting a comparative analysis of policies and support systems related to the exhibition industries of Singapore, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, the US, Germany and Korea in order to track down the source of international competitiveness of the trade exhibition industry of advanced nations. The goal of this study is to make a comparative analysis focussing on the understanding of the present state of the Korean exhibition industry as well as that of advanced nations. The objective is to present strategic measures by making a cross-comparative analysis of the competitiveness of each country with a focus on the promotional strategies for the exhibition industry in advanced nations in order to enhance the competitiveness of exhibitions promoted by the Korean government. The research method is as follows. Firstly, introduction of the background and scope of the study. The current state and characteristics of the industry will be presented based on statistics on the Korean exhibition industry found at the "Association of Korea Exhibition Industry" as well as an investigation of existing literature. Secondly, presentation of the current state of the exhibition industry and its importance. A description of the change in strategy from the previous national growth strategy toward one placing a priority on knowledge-based industry growth will be presented. Thirdly, a run down of the promotion and characteristics of both Korean and overseas exhibition industries. Focus will be given to the state of support for and growth trends in terms of the holding of exhibitions and the exhibition industry itself with regard to the promotional trends and characteristics of each nation"s exhibition industry. Fourth, this study will describe in general terms the promotional policies for the exhibition industry as well as drawing the implications involved, with a focus on the previously presented content. Finally, we will presented measures enabling the expansion of the competitiveness of Korea"s exhibitions in the international exhibition industry focussing on the present state of the exhibition industry.
