Obesity and Mortality

Obesity is now considered to be a major contributor to premature mortality globally. Despite great interest in this topic, there remains much uncertainty over the most appropriate methods that should be applied to obtain accurate estimates of the obesity–mortality association. This article reviews the current evidence on the obesity–mortality association. I discuss pertinent methodological issues and recent advances in our understanding of this association. I then discuss the obesity–mortality association in an international context and potential secular changes in this association.
