VISIBILITY DISTANCE THROUGH HEAT ABSORBING GLASS

The distance at which pedestrians are first detected by drivers looking through clear and heat absorbing glass was determined with the aid of a headlight visibility program. An evaluation was also made of the effects on detection distance of other vehicle and environmental factors such as headlamp misaim, headlamp dirt, pedestrian reflectance, pavement type, low and high beam glare, road curvature, change in grade, and wet pavements.
