New protein folds

Abstract A number of recently determined protein structures display new folding motifs. In most of them, the secondary structures are packed in a standard fashion but connected with a novel topology. In a few others, the secondary structures are arranged with a new architecture. The most interesting examples, reviewed here, provide a new insight on the origin and evolution of protein folds.
