The 5ESS switching system: Applications planning

The ESS™ system is designed for switching applications in rural, suburban, and metropolitan areas. It can function as a local, local/toll, or toll switch, and has features that make it suitable not only for use in the United States but in almost all countries. The modular design of the switch makes it particularly useful for solving wire center and network problems. This article discusses methods for solving such problems and presents some economic study results demonstrating the savings that can be achieved.
