Applying natural language processing-based text mining for crime intelligence analysis

This paper reported research results on Natural Language Processing-based Text Mining for Crime Intelligence research. This research can help both law enforcement agencies and people who need to evaluate crime frequencies and crime patterns of neighbourhood. We started by focusing on the Modus Operandi or the outcome of the crime, extracting the main features of the text like offender name, location, crime date-time … etc. These can be used as keywords to search for a useful patterns or trends. The results are analytical reports that are driven by applying a Natural Language Processing based Text Mining technique, on criminal records databases. In an elaborated experiments, the researchers built a tool based on the proposed algorithm that implement Natural Language Processing based Text Mining techniques. This tool produce crime patterns into charts and diagrams to visualize results in order to support relevant decision-making.
