Experimental study on black-start capability of VSC-HVDC for passive networks

Taking into account the good adaption ability of VSC-HVDC to the voltage, current and power fluctuations, a new black-start strategy based on VSC-HVDC is proposed for passive networks in this paper. First of all, the basic principle of VSC-HVDC is introduced in brief, and then a Matlab/Simulink-based simulation platform is built using VSC-HVDC as a black-start power supply for passive networks. Finally, a large number of simulation tests are carried out using the platform. Based on the test results, it demonstrates that the proposed method not only can effectively improve the system stability during the recovery process, but also can greatly shorten the recovery time of the system.
