The effect of specimen size on the strength of cfrp

Abstract One of the problems in designing large structures in composite materials is extrapolating strength data obtained from small coupon data to values appropriate to the large structure. For homogeneous, isotropic materials this can often be successfully accomplished by means of the Weibull statistical function. Although partial success has been achieved by the use of this technique with cfrp, there appear to be problems which make its use not straightforward.
