Expert Systems for Civil Engineers: Education

While the technology of expert systems can provide engineers with another approach to the development of computable models for civil engineering problems, it is not clear what a course on expert systems for civil engineers should contain or how it should be taught. This book, which is comprised of three parts, begins to address these issues. Part one presents case studies of existing courses that provide several different perspectives on the content and presentation of a course. Part two is a collection of reference materials with commentaries on their appropriateness. The reference materials include books, articles, software and hardware. Finally, part three contains listings of various instructional aids such as assignments, projects, and examination questions. Although the book focuses on courses taught at universities, it does address some of the issues in developing continuing education courses for civil engineers.
