Screen printed lumped element filters based on silver nanoparticle ink

This paper presents capacitors, inductors and lumped element filters fabricated with screen printing techniques and a silver nanoparticle ink. The inductors present the highest density (5.1 nH/mm2) reported for printed inductors with a maximum quality factor frequency and a self-resonance frequency above 1 GHz. The designed filters are 5-pole low pass filters with cutoff frequencies at 850 MHz and 1.9 GHz. The mid-band insertion loss is 0.45 dB for the 850 MHz filter and 0.9 dB for the 1.9 GHz filter and their respective return loss is below 13 dB and 14 dB in the bandwidth. The attenuation at twice the cutoff frequency is better than 40 dB for both filters. The printed components annealing temperature is kept below 250°C and is compatible with most back-end technologies.
