Freeway Congestion Estimation Using Probe Vehicles

The quantification of traffic congestion is critical to effective freeway traffic management.A congestion quantification method based on probe vehicles is presented,together with a general discussion on the pros and cons of the methodology.In the mean time,cautions in field implementation of the method are put forward.
