An Energy Isolated and Dissipated Structural System in Floor-Adding and Retrofitting Engineering

The traditional method of floor-adding and retrofitting of building is to enlarge the dimension of structural elements or wrap them with steel members, etc.Generally, beams and columns of the newly added floors are connected rigidly with the original structure.Besides, the constructional measures of the seismic performance of the conjunctions must be guaranteed.Such measures have some difficulties in construction and attaining expected results, for example, the added vertical steel bar of columns or steel members for wrapping columns should be set across floors or girders and the original structure is to be damaged in construction. This paper proposes a new energy isolated and dissipated structural system, the original structure and the later added floors are not connected rigidly, they are connected by sliding bearings and viscous dampers. Thus, the added floors can move relatively to the original structure under seismic action, and earthquake energy is isolated and dissipated, then the response of structure is reduced.Meanwhile, energy dissipated device is set on original structure to reduce earthquake vibration of the entire structure.A case engineering is put forward to demonstrate the seismic reduction effect of energy isolated and dissipated structural system in this paper.
