Traffic-aware parameter tuning for Wi-Fi direct power saving

In a Wi-Fi Direct network, a single battery-powered mobile device called group owner (GO) helps other mobile devices communicate each other without relying on a pre-existing infrastructure such as base stations. Hence, the Wi-Fi Direct defines two power saving schemes for the energy efficiency of GO, called opportunistic power save (OPS) and notice of absence (NoA). However, the Wi-Fi Direct specification does not define how GO has to adjust the parameters defined in the OPS and NoA schemes. In this paper, we therefore propose a Traffic-Aware Parameter tuning Scheme (TAPS) for power saving operations in the Wi-Fi Direct. Distinctively, TAPS adjusts the parameters according to the traffic load of streaming applications.
