Patient monitoring and safety during MRI examinations

With the continuously growing number of MRI examinations and the enormous speed with which new technological developments are being implemented, patient monitoring and safety are becoming increasingly important issues, which MRI system producers and lawmakers have taken into consideration only to a limited extent. Therefore, institutions that operate MRI units have had to solve these problems on their own. For forensic reasons at least a monitoring concept should be developed with suitable equipment and careful documentation in every institution that operates an MRI unit. This article proposes how to plan and conduct adequate patient monitoring during MRI examinations.
