High-pressure supply of metalworking fluids

Abstract: This chapter presents the physical foundations and detailed explanation of high-pressure metalworking fluid (MWF) application techniques in metal cutting. Covering the external (single-point cutting tools) and internal (drills and reamers) applications, it argues that the MWF flow rather than its pressure defines the efficiency of high-pressure MWF applications. Using gun drilling as a simple example, the chapter reveals major issues that should be considered in the design of hole-making tools with an internal high-pressure MWF supply.
