espanolSe describe el esqueleto casi completo de un nuevo plesiosaurio polycotilido. El ejemplar procede de las calizas laminares de Vallecillo del noreste de Mexico y fue asignada estratigraficamente a la parte temprana del Cretacico Tardio. En las porciones mejor preservadas de las partes blandas se identificaron estructuras milimetricas, alargadas transversalmente de forma rectangular a trapezoidal, y con orden longitudinal. En la solapa, el borde posterior de la piel preserva fibra y escamas, ordenadas en filas y perpendiculares al borde de salida. Se identifico una capa de tejido subdermal, la que es particularmente gruesa en la base de la cola y debe haber contribuido al contorno hidrodinamico en forma de gota del animal, formandose una entidad entre el cuerpo y la cola. De acuerdo con el contorno y los tejidos blandos, se presume que la velocidad del animal debe de haberse aproximada a la de una tortuga laud. La enigmatica osteologia del paladar, intermedio entre Dolichorhynchops y Trinacromerum, la morfologia unica de los cinturones y propodiales, igual que las vertebras gastrales medialmente convergentes, permiten asignar el nuevo especimen a un nuevo genero y especie de los Polycotilidae, Mauriciosaurus fernandezi gen. et sp. nov. EnglishA nearly complete skeleton of a polycotylid plesiosaur is described from the early Late Cretaceous laminated limestones at Vallecillo, northeast Mexico. It shows extensive soft tissue preservation. In some exceedingly well preserved areas there are transversely elongate rectangular to trapezoid millimetric scale-like structures arranged in longitudinal rows. The trailing edge skin flap preserves fibers and scale rows perpendicular to the trailing edge. A thick layer of subdermal tissue is present, especially along the tail base. It was responsible for the hydrodynamic drop-shaped body contour, with the body and tail forming a single unit. The body shape determined from the preserved soft tissues suggests a swimming speed similar to extant leatherback turtles. Based on the unique osteology of the palate, which is intermediate between Dolichorhynchops and Trinacromerum, and according to the unique morphology of the girdles and propodials as well as the medially converging gastralia, the new specimen is placed in a new genus and species of Polycotylidae, Mauriciosaurus fernandezi gen. et sp. nov.
