Investigation on dietary status among rural and urban residents in Jiangsu

Objective: To assess dietary nutritional status and characteristics among rural and urban residents in Jiangsu province.Mothods: Twenty four hours dietary recalled method and weighed method for 3 consecutive days were used to collect dietary information by multi-stage random sampling method.Results: Compared to the reference intake of Chinese Balance Dietary Pagoda(CBDP),the average intake(per reference man per day) of cereals,meat,eggs,fishes met the recommendation;however,intake of vegetables,fruits,legume and dairy were lower than recommendation.Intake of edible oil was higher than the reference.With the economic income increased in residents,the trends of intake of cereals and tuber decreased while intake of vegetables,meat,fishes,eggs and dairy increased.Conclusion: Nutritional education and intervention are needed to promote healthy eating behavior and to improve the nutritional status and health condition.
