Calculation of a steady state mass balance for complex hydrocyclone networks

Abstract A useful new method for performing mass balance computations for a network of interconnected hydrocyclones treating mineral suspensions is presented in the form of a practical guide to the procedures and limitations associated with each step of the calculation. The technique is illustrated for some example networks. Any configuration of hydrocyclones, recycle loops and particle size distributions can be considered. Further developments and uses of the simulation package (HYDRAS) are described, which also have applications for process equipment, other than gravity separation devices.
