A novel low phase noise quadrature VCO for medical implantable transceivers

The proposed Quadrature Voltage Controlled Oscillator is aimed for the MICS (Medical Implant Communication Service) devices. The objectives of the designed VCO is to achieve a small size, low power consumption, and a low phase noise. This unique QVCO is designed on Cadence SpectreRF (TSMC 0.18 mum Technology) platform. The simulation results show that at 400 MHz oscillation frequency, the obtained phase noise for 37 degree centigrade at 160 KHz offset is -93.51 dBc/Hz. The VCO Constant (Kvco) of 7.5 MHz/V for 402-405 MHz range is achieved. The power consumption is at 1.05 mW with the supply voltage of 1.8 V.
