Scalable video browsing and searching via Q-metric

Abstract This paper proposes a scalable video segmentation and parsing scheme that can work directly on compressed video databases. A new metric, Q-metric is utilized to achieve real time accessibility and scalability. The system allows user to perform video browsing and searching over different scales for different application needs and different user preferences. Experiment results show that Q-metric is robust against variation and fast to execute. It is thus suitable for large Internet video database browsing and retrieval.
