A silver halide photographic material is described, having at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing an iodine-containing silver halide on a support and having one or more auxiliary layers on the outermost surface of a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer positioned farthest from the support, wherein at least one of the auxiliary layers contains a substantially non-light-sensitive silver halide emulsion or a silver halide emulsion containing grains whose inner part or surface part is fogged, and the material contains at least one compound represented by formula (I) (I) wherein R, X, Y, Z, and n are described in the specification.
