THE PERIODICALS OF DERMATOLOGY

For over a century, specialty journals in dermatology have been available to the nnedical community. One of the first periodicals devoted to the specialty of cutaneous medicine, Ciornale Italiano delle Malattie Veneree e delle Pelle, continues to be an important publication after 109 years. At least 200 other dermatology journals have appeared since the mid-nineteenth century; they have been published in all sizes, shapes and languages. The story of these publications has been retold in part elsewhere.'"' We have been increasingly aware of the need for a current listing of periodicals devoted to dermatology. With the burgeoning demands made upon reading time, we wanted to know the extent of the dermatology literature in serial form. In addition, we have felt an obligation to survey the field for the American Academy of Dermatology Collection at the Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.fAlthough
