Flow-instability-induced burn-out of non-uniformly heated channels with a constant pressure drop

Abstract The suggestion of Whittle and Forgan on the similarity of bubble detachment and flow instability is further investigated and found to be confirmed by experimental results reported in literature. Since the criterion for the detachment of vapour bubbles from a heated surface is determined by the local conditions, it is proposed to apply this criterion when predicting flow instability induced burn-out of non-uniformly heated channels.
