A Dual-band Filtering Dielectric Resonator Antenna

In this paper, a novel dual-band filtering dielectric resonator antenna (FDRA) is proposed. It is fed by a microstripcoupled slot from bottom, with an open stub of the microstrip feedline elaborately designed to provide a radiation null, and two pairs of the "┥" shaped slotlines are introduced on the coupling slot to generate two radiation nulls at band edges and obtain filtering characteristic. In this design, two resonant modes are excited to provide two operating bands at 3.5 and 5.06 GHz, respectively. Lower operating band is caused by dielectric resonator (DR), while higher operating band is achieved by the slotlines. Consequently, a dual-band FDRA without involving extra filtering circuits is obtained and simulated. The simulated results show that the peak gains are 5.5 and 6.75 dBi, and the out-of-band suppression level is about 20 dB.
