NARROW TRACK SINGLE-POLE TYPE HEAD

-The record and reproduce performance of narrow track single-pole type heads were investigated using a new contact perpendicular hard disk system. It was found that the reproduce sensitivity increased with decreasing track width while the reproduced waveform and recording sensitivity were independent of the track width. Reproduce sensitivity of 3.5 pm and 7 pm track width heads reached 300 nVpp/pm.turn.m/s. Bit error rate measurement was performed using the 7 pm track width head. The error rate of 10-5 was obtained at a bit density of 50 kFRPI with the SN ratio of 33 dB and the peakshift of 12 %.
