Comparison of the year-to-year and seasonal variability of aerosol characteristics under urban and background conditions from measurements at the Aerosol Station and the Fonovaya Observatory in 2014-2018

The analysis of data of monitoring measurements at the Aerosol Station of IAO SB RAS (suburbs of the city of Tomsk) and in the background region (Fonovaya Observatory) in 2014-2018 has allowed us to reveal the opposing character of tendencies in the annual average aerosol and Black Carbon (BC) concentrations (increase at the suburban station and decrease under background conditions). Maximal (in the annual dynamics) differences of the mass concentrations of submicron aerosol and BC between the measurement sites were found in winter, especially, in January and February. A significant growing trend of the BC fraction under urban conditions by 7% per year was discovered. In the background region, no significant trends were observed in the year-to-year dynamics of aerosol and BC characteristics. Peculiarities of the annual dynamics and year-to-year variability of the anthropogenic contribution from the city to average values of aerosol characteristics were analyzed.
