Using simulation for study the possibility of canceling load unbalance of non-sinusoidal high power three-phase loads

The electric arc furnace as a three-phase load represent one of the most important source of harmonic currents, reactive power and unbalanced conditions in electrical power systems. This paper work aims to achieve a study concerning the unbalanced regime and to propose a method for three-phase load balancing. It is well know that the electric arc is a nonlinear element. Thus, for modeling his behavior, it was use a model having parameters like of a real electric arc. For simulation it was use the PSCAD-EMTDC program dedicated to power systems. It was also performed a study for load balancing based on modeling the three phase electric arc furnace installation. For comparative studies it was made measurements in secondary furnace transformer.
