Teaching of statistics to UK undergraduate biology students in 1995

A survey carried out during the Summer of 1995 provides details of the statistical techniques taught to undergraduates in biology, the personnel who teach this material, and the methods they use. There is a wide diversity of approaches to this sub[ect, which in part reflects the different nature of the biology syllabus taught at different tertiary institutes. In general, lecturers have difficulty interesting students in statistics, in some institutes provision of teaching is cursory, and many students appear to graduate without the statistical skills necessary for academic research.
