HOLOGRAPHIC interferometry1,2 is a powerful and convenient means of measuring small changes in the position or configuration of solid surfaces. As such, it would appear to be applicable with particular advantage to the profilometric determination of mass transfer coefficients at solid-fluid interfaces.
