In it, Hofmeister raises questions about the origin, scope, and research basis for the current reform movement in mathematics education. Although there is hardly a noncontentious point in "Elitism . . . , " there are five focal questions that are posed and implicitly answered. In this reaction, these questions are restated and answered with information not included in that editorial.
