Random and programmed pulse-width modulation techniques for DC-DC converters

An approach for minimizing worst-case spectral components of certain circuit waveforms in DC-DC converters is developed. The approach is based on a programmed pulse-width-modulation (PWM) method for harmonic reduction. It is demonstrated that it is possible to precompute an optimal sequence of subperiods to minimize worst-case spectral components. These spectral components can also be effectively reduced by the introduction of high-index random frequency modulation
