Analysis and Comparison of Behavioral Models for Nonlinear RF Power Amplifier

In order to design and optimize high-linearity radio frequency (RF) power amplifier (PA) and communication subsystem, it is very necessary to build correct PA behavioral model in system-level simulation. This paper introduces concept and classification of behavioral models, gives model algorithm of a few reported behavioral models, analyzes and compares with the performances of these models, and meanwhile, two kinds of improved models is proposed. By analysis and comparison, we can draw conclusion: when specifying types of input signal, signal bandwidth, and operating frequency, a suitable behavioral model can be specified to model PA according to model performance and complexity. Finally, a universal rules of choosing PA behavioral models is given.
