Method for monitoring acceleration of the trunk during gait

In this study we describe the electronic instrumentation for monitoring the trajectories of the trunk of the human body during gait of healthy subjects on a treadmill. Acceleration signals were assessed using the information provided by foot pressure sensors. This system is light, compact, inexpensive, and does not provoke any discomfort to subjects during the experimental evaluation. Several clinical and experimental applications can be proposed such as monitoring rehabilitation progress, outcomes during the use of gait orthoses, and fall risk during functional locomotion.
