Large Eddy Simulations of Isotropic and Stably-Stratified Turbulence

Direct or full numerical simulations of the Navier-Stokes equations taking a complete account of all the scales are limited to relatively small values of Reynolds numbers. Direct numerical simulations with 1283 degrees of freedom allow one to reach a maximum value of Rλ ≈ 80, where Rλ is the Reynolds number based on the Taylor microscale.
