Analysis on SST structure of the East China Sea and Yellow Sea in 2005

The SST in the East China Sea and Yellow Sea will greatly influence the eco-system in coastal area of China and analyzing the yearly variations in SST is of significant importance to understand the shifts in eco-system.Therefore the structure and abnormity of sea surface temperature in the East China Sea and Yellow Sea in 2005 were briefly reviewed and the results showed that different water masses were characterized by yearly variation in sea water temperature. The SST in warm current regions in 2005 was similar to that of the last 20 years on average. Though the SST in these areas was lower than average in the beginning of the year and higher than average near the end of the year, the SST in the warm current areas showed higher in temperature and stronger in strength only in a period of early autumn. The SST variations in coastal areas were more complicated. The SST in Fujian coastal area showed no great difference over years. And the SST in coastal area of Zhejiang and the adjacent area of the estuary of Changjiang River was lower than average in spring, but higher than average in most of the rest of the year, especially in summer and autumn. The higher temperature lasted a long period and fluctuated with a wide range. The variation of SST in coastal areas of north Jiangsu and Shandong had no great difference on average year with higher temperature than the average in summer and slightly lower in the rest of the year. The SST in transitional areas in 2005 was characterized by the similar patterns in the first three seasons, with warmer in early winter, colder in spring and slightly warmer in summer. In fall, the SST of transitional areas in south was higher than the average and that in north was near the average.
