A robust fuzzy logic handoff algorithm

In this paper a new algorithm for controlling handoff in mobile wireless networks is described. The conventional handoff control algorithm uses averaged values of the received signal strength for handoff decisions. Mobile terminals can take other measurements, such as distances to the base stations, which are useful for handoff decisions. This algorithm uses a decision process based on fuzzy logic. The performance of this algorithm is analyzed using simulations. Cases with 2 and 4 base stations are considered. The simulations show that in both cases the new algorithm provides better performance than the conventional algorithm.
