Survey of software safety standards shows diversity

Several software standards developed in response to concerns about safety are outlined. The standards cover such diverse areas as commercial aviation, military systems, medical equipment, industrial process control, and consumer products. The applications use different approaches to ensure system and software safety. The analysis of hazards, levels of software verification requirements, and development processes of the standards are discussed.<<ETX>>
