PSS and FDS simultaneous tuning

Abstract A proposition is made to design and coordinate multiple stabilizers in order to enhance the electromechanical transient behavior of power systems. A technique for tuning FACTS-based stabilizers as an optimization problem is presented. The stabilizers’ parameters are obtained through the minimization of an objective function based on second order eigen-sensitivities, and set up by some dominant eigenvalues and their left and right-eigenvectors calculated for different operating conditions. The effectiveness and robustness of the procedure are demonstrated through digital simulations on a 16-machine power system embedding an STATCOM.
