Industrial energy systems

Abstract This chapter introduces the reader to the energy use in different industries globally and displays the Nace rev. standard classification of industries, followed by the subclassification of manufacturing industries according to the same standard. In the subsequent subchapters the largest energy using industries are presented, in descending order based on their energy use globally: chemical and petrochemical industry, iron and steel industry, cement industry, pulp and paper industry, and aluminum industry. The presentation of these industries includes information on the products produced in each industry, the production processes and energy-related matters. Also, the mechanical engineering industry is briefly presented in the chapter.
