A New Screening Method for Glucosidase Inhibitors and its Application to Algal Extracts

pressing hydrolyzation of the toxic ƒÀ-glucoconjugates. Glucosidase inhibitors such as nojirimycin,8) acarbose and AO-128,10) have been obtained from natural and semi-synthetic origins. Most of them have been isolated as derivatives of pseudo-sugars from microbial origins. Re cently, Walker et a1.11) screened for glucosidase inhibitory activity of culture filtrates and organic solvent extracts of microalgae and cyanobacteria. However, the constituents of higher marine organisms have not been studied. A previous glucosidase inhibition assay was principally achieved by a spectrophotometrical method using oor
