Development of EV Power Consumption Estimation Engine on Distributed Processing Platform

Recently it is expected that Electrical Vehicles (EV) will increase dramatically on a world wide scale and contribute to the conversion of non-fossil-fuel energy use. However, the driving distance of EVs is shorter than Gas Vehicles which could lead decreasing growth. Various approaches have been done to improve quality of EVs other than improving battery performance. For example, the exact estimation of power consumption is important for the vehicle navigation service to notify the drivers of the allowable driving distance. In this paper, the authors try to estimate power consumption of EVs by building a model formula for power consumption in each road link. The authors make an attempt to adopt the distributed processing platform, “Hadoop” to lead the model formula. The authors report on the development of the EV power consumption estimation engine and the comparison results with actual car driving data.
