In this paper we discuss how Semantic web concepts can be beneficial for the authoring support of Intelligent Educational Systems (IES). This work is based on modelling application-oriented aspects within SmartTrainer [3] and AIMS [1]. Authoring Task Ontology (ATO) is envisioned as main driving force in providing knowledge to the authoring tools and in enabling them to guide and check the consistency and completeness of the authoring activities. Further we present design principle of the ontology-based framework for authoring support of IES.
