Review: The biochemistry of common aeroallergens. C. A. Stewart and P. J. Thompson, September 1996; 26:1020–44

In this excellent and comprehensive review we were surprised to see that the authors referred to the major rat urinary allergen alpha2u-globulin (molecular weight of 17-19 kDa) as Rat n 2 and the urinary prealbumin (molecular weight of 21 kDa) as Rat n 1. As active contributors to this field, we would suggest that the more correct nomenclature for these allergens is the 17 kDa allergen as Rat n 1 [1-3] and the 21 kDa allergen as Rat n 2 [2,3].
