Translation of English Movie Titles from the Perspective of Linguistic Adaptation Theory

A successful translation of a movie title is expected to achieve various goals: namely,to reveal both the theme and the content,to convey the cultural implications of the movie,to meet the psychological and aesthetical needs of the consumers,and to comply with the linguistic contexts.This paper attempts to analyze translators’con-scious adaptation to those contextual factors mentioned above in view of the linguistic adaptation theory.Hopefully,this paper can help get the adaptation theory across to the readers.Meanwhile,it exemplifies the fact that the adapta-tion theory can serve as an effective perspective for translation studies.
